Campsite in Uldum Marsh

Would you like to spend the night outdoors by the Gudenå River, in the middle of Denmark's largest wetlands? Experience the truly unique marshlands at Uldum Kær with an overnight stay at this nature campsite featuring two shelters.

Peaceful shelter site in beautiful nature

In the southernmost part of the Gudenå River, there lies a truly special natural area. Uldum Kær is Denmark's largest wetland covering 1200 hectares with a unique and valuable flora and fauna. Within the marsh, you'll find this campsite, which serves as an excellent base for exploring the wetland or as a rest stop on a hike along the Gudenå Trail.

You can drive all the way to the shelter site, as there is a parking lot next to the site on Kærvejen. The site is located along Kærvejen, but the small gravel road has limited traffic, and the area is well shielded from the road by trees and bushes.

There are two shelters at the site where you can stay for free. There is also a nice, wheelchair-friendly toilet building with water, a fire pit, a covered area for picnics, and several tables and benches. Please bring your own firewood.

The campsite is generally accessible for people with disabilities. Besides the toilet building, the area is navigable for those with mobility impairments or wheelchair users – though individuals must be able to get in and out of the shelter independently. Additionally, there is a wheelchair-friendly fishing bridge at the site, which is, of course, open to anyone with a fishing license.

On the other side of the road, 50 meters from the campsite, you'll find a large birdwatching tower with a beautiful view of the wetland and an exhibition about the birdlife in the marshland area.

First-come, first-served

It is not possible to book the two shelters. The principle of "first-come, first-served" applies. Please be aware that you will have to share the shelter if there is space for others who also wish to spend the night.

Explore Uldum Kær

The campsite is located right at the heart of Uldum Kær, where most facilities can be found. It is possible to explore the area on foot via a combination of gravel paths, beaten paths, and bridges over wet areas. Keep in mind that the beaten paths can be quite wet, so consider your choice of footwear.

The town of Uldum is just a few hundred meters from the site. Via Kærvejen, you can reach the town, where you can get provisions. We also recommend visiting the Uldum Mølle Museum, which has a fine exhibition about the nature and cultural history of the wetland.

The site is situated right by the Gudenå Trail. You can choose to experience the wetland area by following the signs for the Gudenå Trail to Tørring. Along the way, you will pass by, among other things, the campsite "Verdens Ende" - meaning "the end of the world".
